The New York State Department of
Labor’s computerized system for
matching wage data to benefit data was
originally built several decades ago
and has been modified through the
years. However, the system has reached
the point where it needs to be analyzed
and updated. For instance, in a recent
quarter, overpayments were established
for only 18% of the claimants that were
identified in the existing system as
requiring investigation. The selection
criteria needs to be refined in order to
reduce the number of false positives
that are produced thereby improving the
efficiency of the cross-match process.
